This week in my Web Creation class we were exploring business Ideas. I was able to do some research and see what ideas will be more likely to succeed. Taking into consideration the fact that I am a student and do not have a big budget for my business I was limited in my choices.

All the links I have researched will be at the end of the post if you are interested.

When thinking of a project that I can do I took into consideration my skills and my experience.  I am a Web Developer in progress. I have some experience in design and photography and enjoy both very much. When I was thinking about it it made sense to create a blog that would talk about principles of design and product creation. That was I could share the knowledge I have with people around me and will be able to stay on top of the new things that are coming out in the field.

When choosing an idea for the business you can not limit yourself to your comfort zone. I came up with a list of 20 ideas for a business that I can do. Then using GoogleAdds planner I was able to narrow down my search. Using metrics from the keywords for the ideas I was able to see what keywords would generate better impressions and more clicks, and at the end more traffic to my page. When doing that you also need to take into consideration how high is the competition in the field you are looking into and how hard it will be for you to start in that field.

Keyword Research

The five ideas that I was able to come up with are the following:

  • UX/UI blog
  • Used Books
  • Photography
  • Shirt Printing
  • Phone case shop

My ideal business model will be to work with manufacturers to produce the product I need and one I design. With t-shirt prints and phone case designs I am not things about making the cases themselves, but merely creating designs that I could send to manufacture that they can produce for my shop. For my photography idea, I can offer photography sessions that people can book for special occasions or creative ideas.

The keyword research showed that the most profitable business idea would be to create flower designs for phone cases. I like that idea a lot, but I a pretty sure it will be very hard to start that business in the timeframe of 14 weeks, that this class is providing.

So, in the end, I will stick with my UX/UI blog idea. But if I had more time and resources I would have definitely gone with the phone case design.
